The following paragraphs summarize and clarify the terms and conditions of rental that are more fully set out in the rental agreement that you must sign at the pickup of your campervan.
Included in the Rental
Campervan rental includes unlimited kilometers, all kitchen equipment and utensils, all bed linen (pillows, sheets and duvets), towels, picnic chairs and table. You will only need to supply your personal gear, medicines or any other special equipment that you need.
Duration of Rental
Campervan rental charges are based on a "number of days rented" basis - e.g. a rental from 3pm Friday to 2pm Sunday is a 3 day rental.
Return of Vehicle
The vehicle must be returned on the agreed final day of rental before 5pm unless prior agreement for an extended rental term have been made.
The vehicle must be returned to the agreed drop off location or a relocation charge may apply.
The vehicle must be returned in a clean and tidy condition with the toilet waste tank empty and with a full tank of diesel.
Vehicle Operation
The hirer shall ensure that:
Right of Refusal
We reserve the right to refuse any rental at our sole discretion.
Transfers
We provide complimentary transfers to and from the airport or your hotel in the pickup or drop off location to our Campervan location.
Mechanical Repairs
If the Vehicle requires repairs then we must be notified as soon as possible and given the opportunity to arrange for repairs to be carried out. We do not accept liability for any claims if we are not given this opportunity.
Repairs of up to NZ$100 may be effected without authorisation and you will be reimbursed on production of an invoice and receipt for those repairs but we would appreciate being notified first in case we are aware of an easy way to repair the problem for you.
Insurance
The Vehicle is insured in respect of any loss or damage to the Vehicle and for any damage to 3rd parties. In the event of any damage occurring (no matter who is at fault) you will be responsible for the payment of the insurance excess up to the limit of the insurance bond that you have paid at the commencement of the hire. In the event that we are successful in recovering this excess from any third parties the amount paid by you will be refunded to you.
However, even if you have taken the excess reduction option, if the vehicle suffers damage and you are in breach of your rental agreement at the time (for example by driving whilst over the alcohol limit) - the you will be liable for at least the full insurance excess of $2000 and possibly more if the insurer refuses the claim as a result. Please be careful to operate the vehicle within the insurance requirements at all times. These are set out in more detail on the rental agreement that you will sign at the commencement of your rental.
We recommend that you arrange your own travel/medical insurance to insure your belongings. Whilst New Zealand is a very safe country, it is not free from unscrupulous people. Please be careful.
Drivers
Drivers must hold a current license to drive a car and must be over 21 years old. An international drivers license is recommended.
Payments required
All payments are to be made by Visa or Mastercard.
A deposit of 20% of the total rental is payable at the time of confirmation to secure your booking.
When the vehicle is picked up and before you will be allowed to drive it away, you must pay the balance of the total rental cost owing.
In addition, when the vehicle is picked up you will be required to pay bonds relating to the insurance excess and the return of the vehicle.
Please note that special rental rates apply to longer rentals. Please contact us for a quotation for the full cost of your proposed rental.
Cancellation
If your rental is canceled more than one month from your booked commencement date you will be refunded your deposit less a $NZ500.00 cancellation fee.
If your rental is canceled less than one month but more than seven days from the commencement date you will be required to pay a cancellation fee of 20% of the total rental amount.
If your rental is canceled six days or less from the commencement date you will be required to pay a cancellation fee of 50% of the total rental amount.
By paying the deposit to secure your booking you authorise us to charge your credit card for these amounts in the event of cancellation of your rental.
Bonds
There are two bonds that you must provide (by way of credit card imprint) when you pickup your campervan:
a) The return of vehicle bond
A bond of NZ$300.00 is payable to ensure that the vehicle is returned in a clean and tidy condition with the toilet waste tank empty and with a full tank of diesel.
b) The insurance excess bond
A bond of NZ$2000 is payable to cover the insurance excess in the event of damage to the vehicle or to 3rd parties.
The amount of this bond can be reduced by electing the insurance "Excess Reduction Option". This option costs NZ$25.00 per day of rental and reduces the insurance excess you will have to pay in the event of damage(and therefore the amount of the bond required) to NZ$500.00.
Other Costs
The hirer is responsible for any costs incurred in connection with the rental other than those that Blue Moon Campervans is responsible for, including (but not limited to) any puncture repair costs, interior or exterior damage repair costs, contents replacement costs, parking fines, speed camera fines, cleaning fees, and relocation fees.
In the event of any un-notified parking or speeding infringements or damage to third parties or property discovered subsequently to the rental termination we reserve the right to reimbursement for these amounts by charging your credit card for a period of up to 3 months after the termination of the rental agreement.
Exchange Rate Fluctuations
All prices referred to are in $NZ and due to exchange rate fluctuations the amount of any refunds may vary from the amount paid. Blue Moon Campervans does not accept any liability for any variances caused by changes in the exchange rate.
Vehicle Unavailability at Rental Commencement
In the unlikely event that the vehicle is not available at the commencement of your rental due to it being repaired from mechanical breakdown or accident or late in return from a previous rental then we will endeavor to substitute another vehicle of similar or better specifications and quality in its place.
If your rental period is reduced or delayed as a result then you will be entitled to a refund of any moneys paid for the period of the rental that the vehicle was not provided. We will not be liable for any other costs, charges or damages (whether consequential or not) as a result of delay in providing or failure to provide the vehicle.
Vehicle Breakdown During Rental
In the event that the Vehicle becomes inoperable through breakdown or damage during the rental and where it is unlikely that the vehicle will be repaired within 48 hours from notification to the Company, the Company will use all reasonable endeavours to provide the client with a replacement vehicle.
If such replacement involves obtaining a vehicle from a third party hirer, then the client agrees to pay any extra one-off or daily charges incurred in obtaining that vehicle.
If the Vehicle breaks down to the point where it becomes inoperable as a Campervan (and the breakdown was not caused by the client) then the client will be entitled to a refund of any moneys paid for the rental days that the vehicle remains inoperable until such time as a replacement vehicle is supplied.
In the event of a breakdown or damage to the Vehicle, the Company will not be liable for any other costs, charges or damages (whether consequential or not) suffered by the client as a result of any delay in providing or failure to provide a replacement vehicle.
